The Sanjay Ghodawat University (SGU) is established in the Academic Year 2017-18. It is established as a State Private University under Govt. of Maharashtra Act No. XL of 2017 dated 3rd May 2017, with the approval of the UGC and the State Government. It is spread across 150 Acres and situated in serene atmosphere amidst idyllic hills and lush green meadows to study in harmony with Nature. The SGU stands for performance par excellence. About Department of Space and Atmospheric Science

Under the Department of Physics, the Space Science specialization is running for M. Sc. II. The aim of the department is to be one of the best in the India by conducting advanced research, quality teaching and developing the careers of the next generation space scientists. During the last academic year, the departments have conducted many activities for promotion of space science and create awareness about natural events of Astronomy among the society. The Department of Physics runs undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. courses. This Department is one of the leading departments in the School of Science and the university as well.Five students were completed the summer training program, which was conducted by Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG), Mumbai. The coordinator of Space Science, Dr. Dada P. Nade, has received twenty one lakh rupees from DST-SERB to conduct a research on ozone and its related activities over the Kolhapur region. He also received Super SID from Stanford University through NASA.

SGU-IITM Cooperation in Space

In March, 2018, the Sanjay Ghodawat University, Kolhapur and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for joint research in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. The SGU-IITM cooperation in the area of Atmospheric Research through publications has been started since 2014. Under this MoU the center for Space and Atmospheric Science is developed at SGU.
